Day to Night Makeup

There are often times when I need my makeup to last all day and all night. Transitioning day makeup to night makeup can be simple with just a few additional products. So after a day in the office, spare five minutes to make your makeup cocktail hour ready!

Day to night

In the morning, I start by applying a primer to my face. This will make your base last longer and look fresher throughout the day. I like to use my Smashbox Primer Water. Unlike traditional primers this comes in a spray bottle form. This is great because you can also use it to set your finished makeup look.

Following this, it is important to apply a long-lasting foundation so it stays put all day. I used Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation, followed by Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to cover any blemishes. To give the face a bit of colour, add your favourite blush or bronzer to your cheeks. I used Milani’s blush in Coral Cove.

When I want my eye makeup to last, I always make sure I apply an eye shadow primer. I like to use Mac Paint Pot in the shade Soft Ochre as it has a skin like colour that camouflages any redness on the eyelid, while making eye shadows last. On top of your primer apply your eye shadow. I used a soft rose gold colour on the lid, a medium brown in the crease and a cream colour on the brow bone. These shades were from The Balm’s Nude Tude palette.

I always fill in my brows as they are rather sparse, but (as with all the other steps) please feel free to skip this one if you are lucky enough to have full beautiful brows! I used MUA eye shadow in shade 19 on a small angled brush to fill in any gaps.

To finish off my day look I apply a nude lipstick or gloss. I used Nars Audacious lipstick in the shade Raquel.

For giving your makeup an extra something for the night, I start by spot concealing any areas that need an extra bit of coverage. Following this, I top up the blush I applied earlier on in the day and use a highlighter along the high points of my cheeks. I used MUA Highlighter in White Gold.

I then use a brow gel to set my brows in place and to give them a neater appearance. L’oreal Brow Artist Plumper is a good one to use as it adds a little bit of colour and fullness to brows. To give eyes extra definition, apply eyeliner to the top lash line. I like to use Bourjois Pinceau Liquid Eyeliner, however if you don’t feel comfortable applying liquid eyeliner then use a pencil or dark eye shadow.

To complete my night makeup I use a bright colour lipstick. I feel like this always gives the impression you have put a lot of effort into your makeup without doing a lot! I used Revlon’s Colourburst Lacquer Balm in the shade Whimsical.

MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter Review

My new favourite drugstore obsession – MUA Undress Your Skin shimmer highlighter!

wpid-wp-1418981690473.jpeg

I picked up both shades on a whim, the original neutral pink shade and the recently released white gold shade, for £3 a piece. MUA have some amazing products, so I had relatively high expectations for these highlighters. However, I did not expect them to become my new best friends for glowy, luminous skin.

They are super pigmented (a light hand is needed!) so I expect each pan to last for ages, and it lasts all day on my cheekbones. I apply a light dusting of this using my Real Techniques setting brush, alongside a matte blush or bronzer. The original shade is great for day to day wear, whereas the super intense Iridescent Gold is perfect for making an impact (this one will be great for the Christmas party season!)

My Drugstore Makeup Picks: Eyes

I’m back with the next instalment of my series on my favourite drugstore makeup picks, and this time were looking at eyes! So, here is my list of my all time favourite affordable eye products…

Maybelline Colour Tattoos
These provide a great base for all eyeshadow looks and look great on their own for a wash of colour. If you have seen my previous in depth post on Mac paint pots, you will know that these are highly comparable at just a fraction of the price! They come in a whole range of colours in both matte and shimmer finishes and are priced at around £4.99.

MUA Eyeshadows
MUA shadows are just amazing! They have a massive range of single shadow shades, in traditional and more unique colours, to give a variety of eyeshadow looks. I also use shade 19 (a dark matte brown) to fill in my eyebrows. Their eyeshadow palettes are also of great quality, they are highly pigmented and they have some really good dupes of the Urban Decay Naked palettes. Single eyeshadows are priced at only £1 and palettes are around £4.

L’oreal Infallible Eyeshadows
Highly pigmented, long lasting shadows that always give off a really vibrant finish. Recently I have noticed that these are making less and less of an appearance in the drugstore and I fear they may have been discontinued in the UK (shock, horror!) But they are available on Amazon, and I highly recommend picking them up if you ever see them around!wpid-wp-1422394060284.jpeg

Bourjois Pinceau Liquid Eyeliner
As a big fan of winged liner, I have tried numerous liquid eyeliners over the years and I always come back to this one. Nothing compares. It is long lasting, doesn’t smudge and the brush is so easy to use. It allows you to create a thick or thin line, which is really pigmented and doesn’t required extra layers to build intensity. This is one product I could not live without!

Max Factor Clump Defy Mascara
Now, mascara is all down to personal preference, but for me I always like a mascara that defines my lashes, adds length and the appearance of more lashes without clumping. This is my mascara of the moment. I always have around half a dozen mascaras on the go at a time as I can’t resist testing out new products! But this is something I will definitely be repurchasing.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Pencil Eyeliner
For a long lasting pencil that’s great on the lashline as well as the waterline, you can’t get better than this at the drugstore. It’s a good dupe for the well renowned Urban Decay eyeliners, and has a variety of great shades. This includes a nude pencil which is excellent for use in the waterline to brighten the eyes.

Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara
I use this to set my brows after applying a shadow or cream product when I fill them in. However, if you are lucky enough to have naturally well defined brows this is great for adding a hint of colour and keeping your brows neat and tidy. Big brows are back – embrace them!

Hope you you found this helpful, next time I will be talking about my very favourite lip products (and I will warn you, I am a total lipstick junkie!)
